Overtime Rule Public Comment Ends Tomorrow | WWC
According to David Weil, administrator of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the Department of Labor (DOL), the public commentary period on the agency's proposed overtime exemption rule will not be extended and will close tomorrow, Sept. 4. In a letter to Congress, Weil noted that “a comment period of this length . . . will meet the goal . . . of ensuring Department has the level of insight from the public needed.” The proposed rule will dramatically raise the salary threshold for classifying an employee as exempt to $50,440 a year, or $970 a week. The current standard, issued in 2004, is $23,600 a year, or $455 a week.
