HHS Says 2.5 Million More May Be Eligible for Obamacare Subsidies
Of some 6.9 million Americans who purchased health insurance in private markets and not on the exchanges, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) estimates that 2.5 million should be eligible for subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), reducing their monthly premiums to as little as $75 a month, according to an analysis released yesterday. “More than 9 million Americans already receive financial assistance through the Health Insurance Marketplace to help keep coverage affordable, but today’s data show millions more Americans could benefit,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a statement. “We encourage everyone to check out their options on HealthCare.gov or their state Marketplace and see if they qualify for financial assistance.” At least 100,000 persons in six states -- California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Illinois and Pennsylvania -- would qualify for subsidies, the analysis noted.
