Even though officials announced this week that there would be scant verification of incomes and employment status for those individuals applying for health insurance through the new Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces, a British firm has been awarded a contract that could reach $1.2 billion over five years to process applications, according to the New York Times.
The firm, Serco, already employes 8,000 people in the U.S. for its intelligence-gathering work for the Defense Department, as well as for managing air control towers and processing visa applications. It is hiring an addition 1,500 persons for the ACA gig.
Interestingly, former Edward Snowden employer Booz Allen Hamilton has also received an ACA Marketplace contract. A Canadian subsidiary, CGI Federal, also has captured a major portion of the ACA processing workload.
